News Article | 2nd April 2010 » Scimitars v GB U18's Review

The Scimitars have come through their GB "friendly" unscathed despite some naieve and somewhat cynical play by the GB hopefuls who were given something of a lesson by the Scimdog's last night.

Importantly for the Scimitars returning players Butterworth, Jones and Squires all managed to get some much needed ice time and all have reported no adverse effects.

A big doubt was Simon Butterworth but he said after the game "my thigh was stiff to start with but loosened up nicely and I hope to be fit for Saturday. I'm working hard right now and want to play my part at the week-end".

Another big plus for the Scims was Tom Squires who has been desperate to be in the action since his shoulder injury a few weeks back. "I feel fine" said Tom after the game "I even managed a couple of assists, which was nice." Squires was a major doubt for the play-off's but he has been undergoing intensive physio as well as keeping the shoulder moving with some stick and puck work. He is determined to play a part in the Scimitars play-off campaign but he knows the final decision rests with Scims supremo Head Coach. Squires said "I want to dress this week-end and I want to help the lads if I can. I know we will do well this week-end and I want to be part of it".

The final piece in this years Scimitars has to be long term injured netminder Paul Jones. Out since the start of the season with a hip problem, Jones took to the ice for the first time as starting goalie last night as Bowns sat out on the bench. Jones said "I had a rocky start to the game but had been feeling uneasy all day for some reason. But by the third I was feeling fine and really enjoyed myself. It was great to be back on the ice and it was nice to get a win under my belt too"

The Scimitars will be facing Slough Jets in Slough on Saturday in the first leg of the Play-off Campaign with the return leg at Ice Sheffield on Sunday face-off 5:30pm.
