News Article | 25th March 2010 » Scims Launch Play-Off Shirts

The Sheffield Scimitars have today unveiled a new shirt which will be used in the 2009/10 Play-off campaign, starting with the away game against Slough Jets on Saturday 3rd April.

The shirt design is a move back to black and incorporates a new variation on the Scims hockey logo which should appeal to those people particularly down South, who seemed to have trouble recognising the Scimitars uniform because the word Scimitars was not included (Bracknell radio presenters take note!)

Another new inclusion is recognition for long time Scims supporter Cressida Ridge, whose name appears on the front of the shirt as a vote of thanks for the help she has provided in the past to the team in the form of sponsorship. Scims Director Ian Johnson said "We have a lot of loyal and dedicated supporters who work really hard for the benefit of the Club and Sheffield Hockey in general. Cressida is one of those people and I thought it would be a nice touch to show the Club's appreciation to all of those people by including some form of recognition on the shirt and I hope that people will be pleased with the sentiment and the end result?"

The Scims "Back in Black" play-off place was secured last week-end and Slough Jets were identified as the opponents for the home and away play-off games with the winner over the two legs securing a place at the end of season Play-off Finals week-end being held at the Coventry Skydome on 10th and 11th April.

With the Scimdogs recent run of poor form the play-off campaign presents a great opportunity for the team to try and reclaim some of the blistering form displayed at the start of the season with fast flowing hockey that proved too difficult for opponents to live with.

With the exception of Manchester Phoenix the Scimitars have beaten every EPL team this season and The Head Coach knows that his Made in Sheffield Scimitars are more than capable of going all the way, he said "The last four months have been really tough, we have had games in the bag only to throw the result away in the final third of the game and I have been working hard to address the issues that have tripped us up." He went on "The play-off campaign starts this week-end as we face my old mate Pete Russell's team home and away in a sort of dummy run for the real play-off games that take place a week later. I will be looking for our team to create the momentum that we need to take us to the final game of this season in Coventry on Sunday 11th April. It is important on so many levels for the Scims to be successful and we need to salvage something from the past four months to end the season creditably."

The Back in Black shirts are not being reproduced in replica form and only one shirt is being produced for each player. The Club will be offering these special game worn shirts through a shirt auction which will be arranged by the Supporters Club starting this Sunday.

With the unveiling of the new shirts and a fresh approach to the final series of games thoughts have already turned to next season, but before then the Club will be hosting the annual Presentation of Awards evening on Wednesday 7th April. This event is being organised by the Scimitars Supporters Club and tickets will be available at the Scims home game against Slough Jets on Sunday 28th March face-off 5:30pm."
