Sheffield Scimitars celebrate Christmas, Victorian style!
Before the Scimitars travel down to Guildford to take on the Flames at 6pm on Sunday 6th December, they will be performing the official opening of the skating pad at Kelham Island's Victorian Christmas Market.

Sheffield's Premier League Ice Hockey Club, the Scimitars, will be opening the ice skating pad at Kelham Island's Victorian Christmas Market on Saturday, 5 December 2009. around 12md.
For the very first time, Kelham Island Museum will host an ice pad during their Christmas Market, bringing a real sense of fun to the festivities. The ice pad is a welcome addition to the action packed family entertainment programme which includes a Victorian style fairground with Gallopers and a Helter Skelter!
Gary Apsley, co director of the Scimitars said:
"The Sheffield Scimitars Ice Hockey Club is delighted to be working alongside Sheffield Industrial Museums Trust to promote the Kelham Island Christmas celebrations and hope that this year the events and activities are enjoyed by as many Sheffield people as possible.
"The Scimitars players and staff are always thrilled to be involved in community projects and especially initiatives that promote all that is good in and around Sheffield and its proud industrial heritage. "

"We are delighted that the Scimitars are coming to open the ice pad and then spend the day with our visitors. We are also very happy to have the ice pad on loan from iceSheffield, as it adds another fun element to our already exciting entertainment programme.
"We wanted to make this year's Christmas market better than ever, to celebrate not only its 18th year, but also the fantastic new look and fully refurbished museum".
The event runs over Saturday 5 (10am - 7pm) and Sunday 6 December (10am - 5pm) and will feature over 80 stalls in and around the Museum.
Admission: £4 Adults, £3 Concessions, accompanied children under 16 years of age are FREE.

The event will feature over 80 stalls in their new look Museum. Introducing market quarters, new for this year, the stalls will be split between 'Sheffield, Made' Traditional Skills; Crafts and Gifts, Christmas Shop; 'All that Glitters' Gifts and Jewellery; Festive Food and Entertainment.
To add to the festive atmosphere, there will be a whole host of family entertainment, including their Dickensian Living History characters reliving the story of 'A Christmas Carol' and a Storytelling Santa!
There is a full family entertainment programme which includes a Victorian style fairground with Gallopers and Helter Skelter, a synthetic ice pad provided by iceSheffield and rides on the miniature engine, the Kelham Flyer, and hourly runs of the star attraction - the mighty River Don Engine!
Enjoy a flavour of family fun from yesteryear with a display of local photographs and posters from the National Fairground Archive.
