SHEFFIELD SCIMITARS will get a taste of life at both ends of the EPL table this weekend in their last action before Christmas, and will be looking to follow up their gritty peformance against Swindon last Saturday.

Bottom of the League, Romford Raiders head to Ice Sheffield on Saturday looking for their first win of the season over Scimitars, who will be looking to achieve the same the following evening when they visit leader's Manchester Phoenix, who enjoy a 100 per cent record over Jon Rowbotham's young side.

Romford and Manchester met last Sunday with the fixture at Rom Valley Way producing their second shock home win over Phoenix when the home side emerged as 5-4 winners, for what was only their fourth victory of the season.

That means Scimitars will not be able to take Saturday's visitors too lightly, despite having beaten them comfortably in the two previous meetings between the two sides.

With Manchester's lead over second-placed Milton Keynes reduced to three points as a result of their defeat to Raiders, they will be looking to bounce back this weekend, although they face a difficult two days, heading to third-placed Slough Jets on Saturday before welcoming fourth-placed Scimitars on Sunday. Manchester are in a similar position to Sheffield, with both teams missing their top 4 British players who are away on GB U20's international duty.

Rowbotham will be determined to engineer a first win of the campaign over the former Elite League regulars, Phoenix having twice won in South Yorkshire as well as enjoying a 6-4 win at Altrincham on October 10.

Saturday's home game will be full of action, on the ice against a physical Romford team sporting a hard-hitting new 6' 5" Slovakian defenceman, as well off-ice festive entertainment.
