26th November 2009

Sheffield Scimitars' young hot-shot Robert Farmer has been lighting-up the EPL for the past two seasons, earning himself a reputation as a play-maker and goal scorer and much has been said about a possible move to the Steelers. The first major step of that move has now been taken with Farmer being called-up to play for the Steelers in the Continental Cup competition, which takes place in Bolzano, Italy this weekend.
This is a massive leap for Farmer who has been a major part of the Scimitars team this season and his contribution will be missed this week-end as he pulls on a Steelers jersey. Farmer is one of the top up and coming British players who along with fellow Scimdogs, Haywood, Bowns and Squires, has been selected for GB U20's, so it's no surprise that Steelers Coach Dave Matsos put in the call to see if Farmer was available. The Scimitars were reluctant at first to release their star forward due to a demanding weekend ahead in the EPL, but with an eye on the players development and the opportunity for his progression to the Steelers, Coach and Management agreed to release him, and although this decision could affect the Scimitars this weekend, everyone knew it was the right thing to do.
Speaking today, Scimitars' Director Ian Johnson said "We didn't want to lose Farmer, not with a big week-end ahead of us but you know we are playing in a development league and there are always going to be other teams looking at your best players, especially when they have Farmer's talents. Robert has been training with the Steelers since the start of the season, they know him and he knows them so I'm sure he'll do fine and he'll be back for us next week."
Steelers Coach Dave Matsos said "We thank Scims' Coach John Rowbotham for releasing Farmer, we know and appreciate how important Robert is to their team, especially with their recent good run of results and high league position. Having Robert in their team for the Bracknell game at Ice Sheffield was important to them, however they didn't want to stand in Robert's way this weekend and have him miss this incredible opportunity"
The Steelers will play their first game of the tournament against The Hague at 4.00pm today and Farmer will start his first European campaign against the Dutch team. "This is a great opportunity for me to show myself on a European stage and I know I'm letting my team and team mates down this weekend which is very hard especially with the Scimitars doing so well." He added "This has been a really tough few days for me but I hope the Scims can continue with their good form this weekend and that I do well for the Steelers at the same time".
The Scimitars have another challenging week-end ahead first with a road trip to Milton Keynes to face the Lightning who are 2nd in the league. Scimitars managed a convincing win last time they met at MK last month. Then on Sunday the Scims will be looking for revenge over Bracknell Bees who upset the Scims progress earlier this month in Bracknell. Since then however the Scimitars have regained composure and will be looking to continue with winning ways following last weekend's 4 point's which saw the team move to 4th in the EPL.
Face off on Sunday is at 5:30pm and tickets are available on the door.
