Scimitars sign a new forward
With a little over a week passing since the departure of two players, the Sheffield Scimitars are delighted to announce the arrival from Ottawa, Canada, the latest addition to the Sheffield Scimitars EPL team, Mark Stewart. Stewart is returning to the Scims following his departure 2 seasons ago so he will be no stranger to the Scimdogs' followers who have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of another import.
Speaking last night Stewart said "I'm back in Sheffield, it's great. I had a good time here last time, so when Coach gave me the chance I had no hesitation in getting on the plane to come to England"
Twenty eight year old Stewart in his last season for the Scims in 2007 notched up the following stats:
Ga - G - A - P - P/M
48 - 31 - 46 - 77 - 59
Last season, playing for the Romford Raiders he had the following tally:
Ga - G - A - P - P/M
53 - 22 - 48 - 70 - 10
Stewart took part in his first training session on Thursday night following a 20 hour journey from his home in Ottawa, Canada arriving Wednesday evening. Although suffering from jet-lag, his performance was impressive and there is no doubt that he will bring a new dimension to the Scimitars forward line.
Scimitars Head Coach Jon Rowbotham is excited with his latest signing and said "Mark is just the kind of player this team needs. He is a hard working forward, who skates well and likes to bring his team-mates into the playing situations. He's a strong player at both ends of the ice, he can play both centre and wing and is good with a face-off."
He went on "Mark is a strong player in both power play and penalty kill situations. With excellent shooting techniques, a keen eye for goal in addition to his speed makes him a real threat around the oppositions net. A very durable player who has only missed one game due to injury throughout his career. Mark plays an all-round game with commitment and a 'never say die' attitude."
Stewart's arrival will bring a welcome addition to the Scimdogs roster which was echoed by Director Ian Johnson who said "Stewy's arrival is big news for us and I'm so glad he decided to take-up our offer and come back for another stint in Sheffield. I think he'll be a great partner for Slami & Buttsy and we'll hopefully see what he brings to the team this week-end with our double-header away games".
Daniel Slyk leaves the Scimitars by mutual consent.
Head coach, John Rowbotham announces today that following a meeting with Daniel Slyk the defenseman's playing contract with the Scimitars has been terminated and he is released with immediate effect. The owners, coach, management and players at the Sheffield Scimitars EPL wish Daniel all the very best in his future hockey career wherever it may take him and thank him for his services this season.
