28th September 2009
Sheffield Scimitars goalie Paul Jones will undergo surgery to repair damaged hip joint on Thursday which will keep him out till the New Year…..
Paul Jones has not yet started a game for the new look Scims as he has been suffering a recurring injury to his hip which has kept him out of action since July. Rest and physio has been unsuccessful and so Jonesy has decided he needs to get a surgeon to try and sort the problem once and for all. It's a brave step for the Sheffield youngster and one he has not taken lightly but with the season underway he knows he needs to be fully fit in order to try and regain his place as the Scims starting netminder.
Speaking today Scims Head Coach Jon Rowbotham said "Jonesy has missed a huge amount of ice time and I was desperate to be training with three goalies so that we have healthy competition between the pipes. This injury is preventing the lad from progressing like we all would hope he can and so hopefully surgery can fix the problem for him".
Jones had a remarkable season last term as the Scims No. 1 and with the emergence of another local lad, Ben Bowns, the Scimdogs have two of the best British goalies around and Rowbotham wants both of them fully fit so that he has options. Jones himself has been extremely frustrated of late and now that he has made the decision to go for the operation he won't have long to wait before he can focus his attention on making a full recovery. He said today "I've been out since July and it's been really hard to watch the team from the bench as I'm desperate to play my part for the team. I've decided for the operation as I believe it will cure my problem so the sooner I get it done the quicker I can get back in training."
His operation is scheduled for 1st October and his surgeon has advised him that he will be in recovery for 12-16 weeks which puts him out of action until mid-January. All at the Scimitars wish him well and look forward to seeing him return in the New Year.
