News Article | 30th September 2009 » Scimitars Bag all 4 points in Opening Weekend
They took on last seasons' triple trophy winners and beat them by 4 goals to 2 in a fast-paced game. The score could have been even greater if they hadn't been thwarted by Phantom's goalie, Stephen Wall but Sheffield demonstrated that they were not going to give credence to predictions by some that they would be the League's whipping boys.
They played winning and entertaining hockey with skill and speed on Saturday and then repeated their winning performance on Sunday with a 5-3 win down in Romford.
Coach Jon Rowbotham was extremely pleased with the performance of the team and especially with the way they played at home. The play was not quite so fluid on Sunday on an indifferent ice surface but the team still ground out a good win.
This Saturday the Scimitars are at home again, 7.30pm FO, when Manchester Phoenix come armed with an extra weapon in their armoury from the War of the Roses Cup Challenge, in the form of Ed Courtenay.
A game not to be missed! More details to follow.
