News Article | 19th August 2009 » Scims Bell rings for Lewis

It's announced today by the Sheffield Scimitars that 18 year old D-Man Lewis Bell has agreed terms to make the step-up from ENL to EPL which is another boost for the Scimitars and equally good news for the Scimitars Academy.

Lewis Bell is a product of the Sheffield Scimitars Academy, showing that the development of youth in Sheffield is working to a high level and is edging closer to becoming a self sustainable program from start to finish which is a programme that the Scimitars organisation is committed to.

Head Coach is naturally delighted with his latest signing. He said today, "Bell possesses some of the best hands I've seen for a young defensemen and I know that playing him with more experienced players will be a major benefit to Lewis and my team". Bell is an offensive minded D-man who loves to join the rush to create better scoring opportunities.

Lewis Bell is no stranger to the big stage, last season he played for Sheffield U18's who won the League and National Championship. He was also part of the Scimitars ENL team that won the League and Cup, so you could say that Bell won the "quadruple". He was also in awesome form as a member of the Great Britain U18 team that won Gold and promotion to World Division 1.

Still only just 18, signing for the Scimitars for season 2009/10 Lewis Bell has taken a massive step forward in his hockey career and the lad is clearly excited. He said today, "When Coach called me in to see him I wasn't sure what he was going to talk to me about. When he asked me to consider joining the EPL roster I couldn't believe it and agreed immediately".

Head Coach recalled "Lewis took it all in his stride which is just what I expected of him. I know that he is still maturing physically and is working hard in the gym to add muscle to his frame. I am looking forward to seeing this chap develop over the next season or two because I am sure he will become a big player for the team".

Scimitars Ops Director Ian Johnson was thrilled that another promising prospect has made it on to the Scims roster, he said, "I am all about providing an avenue of opportunity for development and progression; mixing young with old; and matching experience with the up and coming. As we continue to try and develop depth for the future whilst still attaining our fixed targets for this season it's really inspiring to know that players like Lewis Bell can play a part in the Club's continued development".
