A 600 mile round trip to get a signature of 18 year old D-Man!

The Sheffield Scimitars are delighted to announce the latest appointment to the player's roster for the 2009/10 EPL season. Following a 600 mile round trip North of the border, Head Coach and Operations Director Ian Johnson had secured the signing of defenseman, Frazer Goldie.

Head Coach said "I have been communicating with Goldie for the past few months and we finally managed to sort out all of the issues which resulted in him putting pen to paper."

This is a big opportunity for Goldie and he has taken his time to make the decision to come to Sheffield, he said, "I am a player who wants to be part of a good team and I know the Coach well from GB. I will buy into the team ethos 100% because I know it works and I hope that I can produce the performances worthy of the Sheffield Scimitars so that we can be successful"

Goldie is eighteen year old, six foot tall and weighing in at 200 pounds. He is a big player who is considered to have great potential to go all the way in ice hockey. Head Coach says of Goldie, "He demonstrates a tremendous professional attitude and excellent work ethic and although he is still a young chap, he plays like a player with much more experience than his age suggests".

Frazer Goldie knows Head Coach along with some of the other young guns at the Scimitars through the GB U18 set-up. Goldie travelled to Estonia last March to compete in the World U18 Championships where he was noted for his performances throughout the tournament, which were exemplary. Goldie is a player who thrives on the pressure of a big stage and in that tournament he performed consistently every game. Head Coach added, "His vision, shooting and application on the special team plays played a big part in the teams success in winning Gold. His all round game is solid, he is a great skater with total game awareness and on top of that he has a very physical presence."

Last season Goldie played for Solway Sharks in the Scottish league, where he was a key player for the team, contributing to their Northern league title. Head Coach believes Goldie deserves a chance at playing at the EPL level and two years will see Goldie become a mainstay player before moving naturally to the next level as he progresses and matures as a player.

Scims Ops Director Ian Johnson made the trip to Goldie's home to talk with the player. This is a big move for the young Scot and this is a point not lost on Johnson who said, "Jon told me that he ranked Frazer as the No. 1 defenseman in the U18 World's due to his performances and commitment to the GB team. This is just the sort of player that we want to sign and it further demonstrates our commitment to development of British talent."
