News Article | 19th February 2009 » Hot Action on Ice - Sunday 22nd Feb. 5.30pm
The Sheffield Scimitars face-off on Sunday at 5.30pm in an important clash against table-topping Guildford Flames in some hot Premier League action at iceSheffield.
The Scimitars and Flames will be fighting hard for the points this weekend, as will every other team in this season's very competitive League. The Scimitars need a return to their home-ice form, they came close to some points last Saturday against Romford but Sunday saw a confidence-boosting performance with a 7-0 score-line against Wightlink Raiders.
Ron Shudra commented 'We did a lot better on Sunday, with all players contributing at both ends and collectively we must get stronger and compete as a five man unit'.
Sheffield and Guildford have only met three times so far this season, and while the Scimitars have failed to take a point off Guildford in those encounters, the Flames have suffered a few shock defeats against teams lower in the league, so confidence and positivity is all important for Sheffield.
The Scimitars will need to concentrate and play hard for the full 60 minutes against a team with some top sniper forwards, good defence and the league's top penalty taker, Vaclav Zavoral.
Ron added that 'They bring a potent offence in tonight with the ability to turn the lamp on behind us with numerous offensive threats. They will attempt to run riot in our defensive zone and capitalise on every chance we give them. To combat this, we must all be together playing defence'.
The Flames are targeting a 2nd consecutive League title under their coach, Paul Dixon, who, as a rookie coach took them to the title last year. They travel to Sheffield having faced their main title rivals, Peterborough Phantoms, on Saturday evening. This means the Scimitars will face either a Flames' team on a high from putting themselves 2 points clear at the top and with the aim of extending that on Sunday, or one that has had a rollicking and is desperate to take the two points home.
Either way, Sunday, 5.30pm at iceSheffield, will be a battle for the points and the Scimitars need your support.
