News Article | 11th September 2008 » Return of the two Ryans plus a new Slovakian
The Sheffield Scimitars are very pleased to announce the signings of another three players to be added to the almost complete roster.
Newcomer to the Sheffield Scimitars this season is Patrik Zgibor, a 19yr old Slovakian defenceman who was recommended by Slava Koulikov in Hull. Patrik has been training with the Scimitars for a few weeks and Ron Shudra has decided to sign him to develop his skills further.
Young Ryan Handisides has been signed as a regular Scimitar player this year. Martin Birch says Ryan will be a popular addition to the squad and is confident that Ryan can only continue to benefit and improve from regular ice time at this level. Ryan showed last year that he could stand his ground against more experienced players and demonstrated his tenacity and ability which served as an irritant to many opposition players.
Ryan Johnson is being given another chance to play at EPL level in his return this season and will also prove a popular signing. Martin Birch commented that 'I know that if Jono can get up to full fitness and recover his speed of old, prior to his knee injury of 2 years ago, he will be an asset for not just his on-ice skills but also for his contribution in the dressing room.
That leaves just one import place to fill and offers are on the table to a trio of players. Martin said 'Ron knows who he wants but will not be rushed into just signing anyone. We should be able to give you the final answer in the next few days, and this will be announced as soon as a contract is signed'.
The English Premier League season starts on the 20th September, with the Scimitars playing their first home game on Sunday 21st September, at the very much earlier face-off time of 1pm. This follows an away game in Swindon, and precedes the Steelers playing Manchester at iceSheffield later in the day.
The Scimitars are inviting all their Season Ticket holders to bring along a new spectator free of charge to this first game. Season Tickets can still be purchased with the advantage of 4 free games, see www.sheffieldscimitars.co.uk for more details.
Fans will be able to see Ron Shudra in action in his first game of the season as Head Coach of the Scimitars as well as the popular ex-Steeler, Warren Tait, icing for his new team. The Scimitars are offering any Steelers and Manchester fans the unique chance to enjoy a Sunday hockey fest with the special offer of adult tickets at £5.00 on production of a Steelers' game ticket.
