The Sheffield Scimitars new season starts this weekend under new Head Coach, Ron Shudra and with a late new signing arriving in the country in time to ice for the first two games.

The Scimitars play their first home game against last season's Play-off winners, Slough Jets, at iceSheffield at 1.00pm on Sunday 21st after a long journey away in Swindon on Saturday evening. The Steelers are also at home but playing out of iceSheffield against Manchester, hence the Scimitars' early start.

The Scimitars are taking advantage of this opportunity to offer all fans with an Elite game ticket or a Steelers' Season Ticket the chance to come and watch the Scimitars for just £5 for an adult ticket (£3.50 child).

The Scimitars newest signing, Czech-born Zdenek Sikl, is a 6', 190lb forward who started in Germany last season but ended the year in Sweden. He played 25 games in total which were split between the two countries, and in those Sikl scored 21 goals with 18 assists. He is an older player at 36 but from all accounts he has good speed, good hands and a very good shot.

Ron Shudra said 'I went with a more mature player who has been around a lot of professional leagues in Europe and North America, including CoHL, WCHL, UHL CZE 1st Liga, and two years in France. In the past he has scored equal amounts of points with players I was looking at who were ten years younger but not as experienced. We have a young team and hopefully he can provide some leadership on and off the ice'.

The Scimitars' roster is now complete, though Ron Shudra will continue the policy of bringing up young players from the Academy to train up and if they impress they will gain some valuable ice time at EPL level. This is a policy that has helped produce many of the players in the present Scimitars' squad, who will be aiming to carry on the successes of last season.
