James Archer has left the Sheffield Scimitars to join the Elite League leaders Coventry Blaze in what we can only describe as a shock and surprise decision from the ex-Peterborough player.

Once again we see local talent moving to other teams which is one of the problems with having such a good junior development, in that our rising stars will always be prone to approaches from premier and elite league teams. It is our intention to create better opportunities for our kids so that they won't want to go anywhere else but stay in Sheffield and play at all levels.

Neil Abel is extremely disappointed with the situation and James, but wishes him all the best for his future. Neil would not have signed him from Peterborough if he had known that he was going to leave before the end of the season, as this was seen as a chance to bolster the squad prior to the 20 game rule dead-line, especially given the injury situation at the time.

He doesn't feel it will have a bad reaction on the team as he now has the chance to move some of the younger players up a line and bring another youngster up. Neil remains firm in his quest to bring through as many of our young players as he can and give them the opportunity to try their skills at premier league level.
