Scimitars' fan Joseph Burdett made a dream come true for his favourite player when he presented him with two tickets to watch Manchester United. Joseph, aged seven, handed the tickets over to a delighted Peter Slamiar at a recent Scimitars' home game.
'Slami', a Slovakian forward who joined Scimitars this summer, met Joseph and his dad Chris returning from a game on the Isle of Wight last month. "We met on the ferry and just got talking," explained Slami. "I told him that I love football and it was one of my dreams to watch Manchester United. "I couldn't believe it when he presented me with two tickets at a game. I was totally shocked but very happy."
Slami took fellow forward Stuart Brittle to Old Trafford for United's Champions League game against Dynamo Kiev which saw United ease into the second round. "It was a great game and we had a great time. I just want to say a huge thank you to Joseph for making it possible."
Joseph, a promising footballer at Sheffield United Academy, was delighted to help his ice hockey hero. "My dad phoned the club for tickets after we met Slami on the ferry and was lucky to get some," said the Renishaw Primary School pupil. "He's my favourite player."
Slami is to present Joseph with a hockey stick as a thank you.
