Sheffield Scimitars will be looking forward to putting their inconsistent playing behind them when they meet Romford Raiders and league toppers Guildford Flames in their first encounters so far this season. Romford are having a woeful time with further losses against the Isle of Wight and Bracknell last weekend. They have only managed to come off the victors twice in the last ten games. But when the two teams have meet previously the affairs have been fast and physical and they are not a team to take lightly. Scimitars play them at home on Saturday night with face off scheduled to be 19.15. Scimitars will then be hoping that Guildford have the same team out on the ice that they did last Sunday when they were beaten in overtime by bottom of the league team Telford Tigers.
On Scimitars own performance last weekend coach Neil Abel was still trying to come to terms with their results. A good win in Swindon was then followed by a poor performance at home against Milton Keynes which saw the Scimitars come out the losers.
He said "Saturday was a good game we held Swindon back and closed them down. We did everything right with good marking, shooting and passing the puck around the ice. The whole team played well and I was very encouraged by the progress the team has made over the last couple of weeks.
However Sunday's game was a completely different story. He said "We did not play as a team and I am extremely disappointed. If this is the way things continue then I will make changes. The boys went from good to bad overnight. If they can play like they did in Swindon I believe there would be no problem in finishing high up in the league table but if they carry on playing the way they did on Sunday then they will have problems. It was not even as if Milton Keynes played that well. We must be consistent if we stand any chance later in the year."
This point is particularly applicable because Sunday's trip to Guildford is the start of a straight five game endurance test being played on the road. Their season could be decided on depending on how well they come out of it. Scimitars next home game after this Saturday is scheduled to be on the 28th October when they meet up with the bully boys from Peterborough in a league game. Face off for that encounter is 19.15.
