Match Report | 6th April 2010 » Slough Jets 5-1 Sheffield Scimitars

Face Off: 6.30pm, Saturday 3rd April 2010

Quarter Finals - 1st Leg 3.4.10

Scimitars travelled down to Swindon for the 1st leg of the Play-offs following their double win over the same opponents the weekend before. However the end result of this weekend was Coventry and a semi-final Play-off as the prize for the winner and was always going to be tough for the short-benched Scimitars. The squad consisted of 12 skaters and 2 netminders, missing Tom Squires, Mark Turner and the U18's from the line-up.

On Saturday, in a blistering 1st period, the Jets dominated, as they had the previous week, though with even greater intensity. A shot on goal almost from the face-off gave an indication of what was to follow with Ben Bowns standing tall as the Scimitars were totally out-shot 28-6. Slough took the lead at 4.41 as Blaz Emersic scored from the slot on the powerplay. Scimitars equalised at 6.10 as Peter Slamiar wristed a great shot past Rockman following some superb passing all the way down the rink, with assists by Lewis Bell and Matt Haywood. A fast and physical period was capped off with Peter Jasik giving Slough a 2-1 lead again just 1.52 minutes before the buzzer.

Another early goal in the second period scored by Joe Greener at 21.01 put Slough 3-1 up as Steve Duncombe's penalty was about to expire. Scimitars were able to work they way back a little more in this period, stemming the earlier offensive barrage and taking fewer penalties, though Slough closed down Scimitars' effective powerplay unit of last week and the period ended 3-1.

Another goal by Emersic straight off the face-off at 40.12 presented Scimitars with an uphill task for the third and Slough were in no mood to slacken off. Scimitars were down to 11 skaters during the third period as Duncombe was lost to the game through injury. Jasik claimed his second goal at 54.12 and despite the Scimitars putting their all into reducing the deficit for the return leg at home, Rockman shut the door and the game ended 5-1. Peter Slamiar was awarded MOM.
