MATCH REPORT
Slough Jets v Sheffield Scimitars 3-4 27.3.10
In the first of 4 consecutive games against Slough Jets, Scimitars enjoyed a hard working come-back win with 4 powerplay goals and Ben Bowns (MOM) keeping them in the game with some great saves out of the 54 shots faced.
Scimitars were missing Coach Jon Rowbotham, Simon Butterworth and Ben Wilson with Tom Squires coaching on the bench.
The first period belonged to Slough as they dominated the offensive attacks despite much end to end play with Joe Greener putting Jets 1-0 up at 3.43. Scimitars were not allowed to build many quality scoring chances on Rockman whereas Jets had several breakaways during the game, shorthanded as well as at full strength. Slough scored again just before the buzzer as Ciaran Long put the Jets 2-0 up at 19.59.
It could have been a long night for the Scimitars when Jets went 3-0 up at the start of the 2nd period but a powerplay goal by James Archer at 25.43 gave the team a lift. With Slough again short-handed, Lloyd Gibson finished off some good passing in front of net at 31.07 to pull the score back to 3-2. Scimitars finished the 2nd period looking much stronger despite some physical play by Slough.
Bowns closed the door on some excellent scoring chances by the Jets in the 3rd, giving Scimitars the confidence to drive forward. The Scimitars powerplay unit again swung into action in the final period with Mark Stewart equalising at 55.24 as Jets continued to take penalties. Hope was high for the visitors when Adam Greener went into the box with 2.15 left on the clock and Archer clinched the game with his second of the night at 58.46 giving Scimitars a confidence boost with an unexpected away win.
Ben Bowns was awarded a much deserved MOM award.
