Match Report | 19th January 2010 » Bracknell Bees 5-4 Sheffield Scimitars
Face Off: 6.00pm, Saturday 16th January 2010
16.1.10 5-4 OT
On Saturday, Sheffield travelled down to Bracknell missing Peter Slamiar and Simon Butterworth, and without released player, Stephen Wallace. In an incident-filled physical match, they saw their 4-3 scoreline disintegrate with the equaliser in the dying seconds of full time, before conceding the winner just 34 seconds before the end of overtime.
After a poor first period for the Scimitars and a short-handed breakaway goal down, scored by Jaroslav Cesky, assisted Michel Pinc, the period ended 1-0.
The second period looked as though it would go the same way after Cesky scored his 2nd goal at 20.29 as he pounced on a loose puck after the initial save. However, a mid-ice collision by Bicknell on Lloyd Gibson handed the Scimitars a 5 minute powerplay (with Bicknell receiving a match penalty for kneeing) and Scimitars scored their first goal just 26 seconds into the powerplay by Matt Haywood at 21.47. Gibson took no further part in the game.
With Bracknell unsettled and a roughing penalty called on Nicky Watt, the Scimitars had a 5-on-3 advantage for 1.43 seconds. Steve Duncombe scored the equaliser, with Lee Haywood claiming his second assist. With the Scimitars fired up, htough 3 players down and Bracknell turning up the physical side, the period swung in Sheffield's favour as Mark Stewart scored a great goal at 29.56 to take the lead. Matt Haywood scored his second just before the buzzer for a 4-1 middle period when Sheffield outshot the Bees by 24 to 7 SOG.
An early fight at the start of the 3rd period between James Archer and Graham restored the Bees focus and caused Archer to leave the game shortly after. Sheffield had to counter an upsurge in the Bees offence and could not withstand in-form Cesky and Pinc. Bracknell pulled one goal back at 54.16, Pinc assisted Cesky and then Watt gutted the Scimitars with an equaliser, 4-4, at with just 21 seconds left. Despite a Stewart penalty in OT they hung on until Pinc grabbed the EH game winner at 64.26, with Matt Haywood awarded MOM and Scimitars taking home just the one point.
