Match Report | 2nd December 2009 » Sheffield Scimitars 2-4 Bracknell Bees
Face Off: 5.30pm, Sunday 29th November 2009
29.11.09
Scimitars took on Bracknell Bees at ice Sheffield looking to return to winning ways after narrowly losing out in MK on Saturday evening.
Scimitars grabbed an early lead at just 1.14 by James Archer, but they looked rather tired from the previous night's tough game. Bracknell had a goal washed out at 6.07 for a player in the crease with Ryan Watt and Steve Duncombe having a clash also. Scimitars then went on the powerplay after a tripping call but were unable to take advantage with Pasi Raitanen having to make a save on a short-handed breakaway by Cesky and Pinc. Back to full strength and Bracknell equalized at 12.12 by Watt though assisted by the duo of Cesky and Pinc.
As the game progressed, Jon Rowbotham introduce a new system of play in an attempt to mix-up the Bee's. Peter Slamiar restored a 2-1 lead at 25.08 on the powerplay but the Bees responded well and as the Scimitars struggled with the systems the Bees struck back level again at 32.36, with a great cross from Dumas to Terry Miles who banged the puck home. Some end to end action with shots on both goalies though Bracknell taking some penalties as frustrations built up.
In the third period, M. Haywood had an altercation with Pinc and Cesky, but the Scimitars could not take advantage of the resulting powerplay. A time-out was called by Sheffield, but Bracknell took the lead for the first time at 56.21 as Ryan Watt lifted the puck up high from a failed clearance off a rebound. Despite some intense play by Sheffield, they could not find an equalizer and with Raitanen pulled, Bracknell secured the win with an empty net for a 2-4 win.
After the game Scims Coach Jon Rowbotham said "I take full responsibility for the performance tonight, it was not good enough. I tried to implement a new system and it did not work out as I'd hoped and we paid the price, I am very disappointed." He went on, "We can bounce back from this set-back and although we worked hard I know we will continue to improve as a team." Matt Haywood was awarded his 2nd MOM of the weekend with Bracknell's back-up goalie, A. Marashi earning his MOM.
The Scimitars next home game is on 19th December, 7.30pm against Romford Raiders. On Saturday 12th the Scimitars make the journey down to Guildford before the GB U20's depart for their international World Championships.
