Face Off: 5.30pm, Sunday 22nd November 2009

22.11.09

An excellent four point goal-fest weekend for Sheffield Scimitars as they returned to winning ways.

At home to Basingstoke on Sunday, Scimitars were in command from the start of the game for a comfortable 7-2 win.

Scimitars took the lead just 2.58 minutes into the game with a top-shelf slapshot by Stephen Wallace from the top of the circle. Another couple of near goals for Sheffield before Robert Farmer roofed the puck in past Annetts at 13.21 with Pasi Raitanen making some good saves on his return to net (for half the game) after recovering from 'flu, to keep the score 2-0 to the end of a fast and clean first period.

The pace continued in the second as Sheffield claimed another goal at 23.42 as Tom Squires raced over the blue line before passing across to James Archer who slotted home, amid controversy of a 'kicked in' goal. It was deemed good and stood at 23.42 to go 3-0. Bison hit back with their first of the night at 24.34, drilled up high by
Bronnimann. Basingstoke turned on the heat for a spell but it was Scimitars' Matt Haywood who scored on the PP at 36.06 to end the period 4-1.

Basingstoke clawed an early goal back at 40.28 as Lauko struck the back of the net on the first shot of the period. Sheffield responded by hitting 3 un-answered goals in quick succession starting with Tom Squires at 44.49 on the PP. Robert Farmer stole the puck off Redmond and headed for the net, scoring unassisted. A bullet from Archer at 47.39 which gave Annetts no chance, ended the period and game at 7-2, though with some other contested goals by both teams ruled out. Peter Slamiar and Nicky Chinn were awarded MOM's.
