Match Report | 21st October 2009 » Sheffield Scimitars 8-5 Bracknell Bees
Face Off: 7.30pm, Saturday 17th October 2009
17.10.09
On Saturday, the Scimitars put the Bees to the test in a determined effort to get back to early season form and they came out firing on all cylinders.
The Scimitars were on the attack from the face-off with a resulting early goal at 3.42, scored by Peter Slamiar from a great pass by Simon Butterworth after beating two Bracknell players. Despite the Bees then trying to make a push forward, Robert Farmer tipped in a cross from Matt Haywood at 8.38 to go up 2-0. Bracknell pulled one back whilst on the powerplay with a top shelf bullet from sharp-shooter Cesky at 10.57. A fast first period, with the Scimitars controlling a good percentage of the play, with a shot count to match.
The Scimitars continued to dominate in the 2nd period, peppering Ambler in the Bees goal with 19 shots. Farmer claimed his second of the night at 22.05 off a pass by Arran Strawson after some prolonged pressure in the Bees' zone. A great goal was scored by Lee Haywood at 25.16 after a feed from Slamiar and a good offensive run. Bracknell managed a short-handed breakaway by Miles intercepting a long pass with no reward after a good save by Bowns. A minor scuffle broke out in front of the Bees' net resulting in two Bracknell and one Scimitars' penalties allowing Slamiar to score a PP goal at 31.39. The offensive duo of Cesky and Pinc always looked dangerous when pushing forwards. Cesky scored his 2nd goal at 36.29 with the Bees beginning to find their feet but going in to the 2nd break down by three goals.
However, Bracknell raised the tension level and tempo in the third as their play became more co-ordinated and they scored two quick goals. Watt scored at 46.35 and then a shorthanded goal by Pinc at 48.56 after initial shot saved but the rebound bounced in off a player.
As the Bees intensified the pressure another shot by Dumas hit the post and the Scimitars fans were on edge. With just over 10 minutes to go and a 5-4 scoreline the Scimitars responded with 3 unanswered goals to settle the fans' nerves, starting with a one-timer by Archer at 52.12, followed by Farmer's 3rd at 53.31. Ambler received a 10 misconduct and the Scimitars added their 8th goal via Matt Haywood at 53.41, before Dumas produced the final sting with their 5th goal to complete the scoring at 8-5.
MOM went to Robert Farmer for his excellent performance and his work ethic, plus a hat trick and two assists.
Sheffield Scimitars next play at iceSheffield on Sunday, 1st November, 5.30pm to face Basingstoke Bison after 4 games on the road.
