Match Report | 21st October 2009 » Guildford Flames 8-1 Sheffield Scimitars

Face Off: 6.00pm, Sunday 18th October 2009

18.10.09

Mixed fortunes for the Sheffield Scimitars this weekend with sweet success against the Bees on Saturday as they got back to winning ways in an 8-5 goal fest only to be flamed on Sunday down in Guildford by 8-1.

The Scimitars took to the road on Sunday to face high flying Guildford Flames following a much needed home win on Saturday against Bracknell Bees with eight goals being the lucky winning number on both days.

With Guildford on a 7 game winning streak and the Scimitars scoring 8 against Bracknell the previous night, it was going to be a tough game. The Scimitars came out flying, gaining possession well but despite that, they went down by 2 goals in the 1st period after Guildford took the lead at 14.43 by Rob Lamey from Masa and Skene, followed by a goal by Melicherik at 19.18.

The Scimitars battled hard in the 2nd period but Guildford took their lead to 3-0 at 27.44 as Rempel hit the back of the net before Peter Slamiar got a strike as 28.38 to close the gap by one. However, two unanswered goals by Guildford at 33.13 and 37.50 put them firmly in the driving seat. It also prompted a change in goalie for the Scimitars as Ben Bowns replaced Pasi Raitanen for the 3rd period.

The Scimitars worked hard in the third period despite the challenge to turn things around but it was to little avail as Guildford continued their offence. They took another three goals in the third with Masa hitting the back of the net at 46.37, Potts at 49.51 and finally a powerplay goal by Melicherik at 51.17 for Guildford to claim their 8th consecutive win.
Robert Farmer was awarded MOM for the Scimitars.

Sheffield Scimitars are next at iceSheffield on Sunday, 1st November, 5.30pm to face Basingstoke Bison after 4 games on the road.
