In front of a large crowd on Saturday, Sheffield took on a determined Guildford Flames intent on taking the two points in order to avoid having to face Romford in the Play-offs, though with Alex Mettam given the start in goal.
The Scimitars had the advantage of a powerplay within the first 4 minutes of the game but was allowed little chance of any shots on goal. Guildford's powerplay was a little more effective but with shots saved. Some good offensive action by both teams in a fairly even first period but it ended 0-0.
Within the first 3 minutes of the second period Guildford was the first onto the scoresheet at 22.38 as Cross swept into the zone. The Scimitars had the advantage of a PP at 2.39 for an elbow on Barron but 2 shots on goal were from a distance. The 2nd goal was credited to Foremsky as the puck was carried in on a Flames' player's body, difficult to see and to stop. Lamey scored the third at 34.20 which went in off the underside of the bar before Wallace pulled one back by hitting the centre of the net from close range at 39.12 to make the score 3-1 at the end of the 2nd.
In a 1-1 final period Guildford were the first to score at 46.16 as Goodman went low to block a shot. Some great passing between Bowie and Wallace resulted in the Scimitars pulled another goal back at 51.49 by Wallace on the powerplay after as shorthanded attempt by Bouz was saved. Slamiar nearly pulled another one back but the puck hit the post and Mettam saved other shots. The Scimitars fight back stalled as they had to penalty kill from 58.57 and the game finished 2-4 down, with Stephen Wallace earning his MOM award and Mettam for Guildford.
The Scimitars last home game is the first leg of the Play-off quarter-finals v Milton Keynes Lightning on Saturday 4th April 7.30pm at iceSheffield, with the away leg on Sunday 5th March at 6pm in Milton Keynes.
