Match Report | 4th February 2009 » Sheffield Scimitars 3-4 Slough Jets

Face Off: 5.30pm, Sunday 1st February 2009

3-4 OT

The Scimitars had Steve Wallace back in the line-up for the home game against Slough Jets on Sunday in their bid to extend their winning streak of 8 consecutive games.

Slough were missing the league's top scorer and head coach, Steve Moria, on the ice but had Zoran Kozic back as well as adding Ross Bowers and Jamie Line to their squad.

The game got off to a fast start with Slough pressuring in the Scimitars' zone for sustained periods with occasional good forays by the Scimitars at the other end of the ice. One of these resulted in a goal at 10.31 by Peter Slamiar who netted on the second attempt from a Butterworth pass rather against the run of play for a 1-0 first period.

The second period belonged to the Jets beginning when they lit the scoreboard at 25.41 after Nicky Chinn roofed the puck over Jones following some saves round the net post. Kevin Phillips was able to grab a 2nd goal on the powerplay at 29.00.

Both teams again had plenty of passing and possession but after a string of saves by Jones, Blaz Emersic scored 36.42. Simon Butterworth was then able to hammer in a shot off a cross from Millqvist at 37.32 to bring it back to 2-3.

The 3rd period continued with some fast end to end hockey but the Scimitars could not find the equaliser until 54.36 when Ben Morgan powered a shot along the ice. The Jets upped the tempo but the Scimitars held on to send the game into overtime. The Scimitars had to be content with just the one point as they lost the puck on the blue line to Ross Bowers who fired in low at 31 seconds into overtime. Paul Jones was MOM and also Supporters' Club Player of the Month.
