Match Report | 11th December 2008 » Swindon Wildcats 3-2 Sheffield Scimitars
Face Off: 5.45pm, Saturday 6th December 2008
On Saturday, the Scimitars were at Swindon in a game notable for Swindon's penalty count of 88 mins. accumulated during a bench clearance in an incident strewn game on and off the ice.
This was the Scimitars second visit to the Link Centre, the other being the first game of the season and one the Scimitars were leading for 50 mins. This game was also one which the Scimitars should have won with Ron Shudra saying "We out played Swindon for in my opinion for the majority of the match and deserved 2 points from the work we put in".
The Scimitars scored first at 15.37 courtesy of Stephen Wallace and maintained that lead until 25.27 when Swindon equalised. The game was end to end, but the second period was marred by a Swindon bench clearance after some fracas near the Scimitars bench involving Lee Brathwaite. Nicky Watt received a 2+2+Game and 3 players in each team received roughing penalties, despite most of Swindon's bench on the ice at the time. Swindon's Robin Davison scored two in the second to take the score to 2-2 at the end of the period.
The game settled down in the third but John Wheaton scored the game-winner at 43.33 and Sheffield could not find the equaliser. Wallace was given MOM award.
