Match Report | 7th December 2008 » Slough Jets 3-5 Sheffield Scimitars

Face Off: 6.30pm, Saturday 22nd November 2008

The Scimitars made the trip south following a hard fought but good win in Peterborough the week before. They were still missing James Goodman with Patrick Zigibor sitting out, but otherwise at full strength.

Play went end to end with Slamiar stripping the defence apart with one foray on goal. Some good pressure on both nets was not enough and the period ended scoreless, as although the Scimitars were more dominant than the Jets in the first, they were unable to take any advantage of the two powerplays on offer.

At the beginning of the second period, Sheffield capitalised on the remaining time on the Slough penalty, picked up at 18.54, by scoring their first goal 49 seconds in by Slamiar from Shudra and Morgan. The Scimitars seemed to take their foot off the peddle a little after the goal, or Slough upped their game, and the pressure was more in the Scimitars' zone with Jones called into action several times in quick succession.

With the Scimitars rather on the back foot and after a short stoppage in play to repair a loose board following a bad deflection near the Scimitars' net, Slough scored the equaliser by Ciccarello at 31.00 for a 1-1 period in which Sheffield had allowed Slough to pick up the pace.

The third period belonged more to the Scimitars as Slamiar put the them ahead again at 42.31 assisted by Millqvist and Woolhouse, but Slough responded quickly at 42.56 from Moria after Sheffield could not clear the zone. The Scimitars then had a goal waived off but It was Wallace's turn at 45.32 to take the team 3-2 up.

With Slough applying pressure around the Scimitars' net and Ciccarello in place in front of the net to receive a pass out from behind by Moria, they tied the game again. However Wallace scored the game winner and his second of the night on a 5 on 3 powerplay at 49.36 with Shudra and Morgan gaining their hat trick of assists of the night. Sheffield were able to withstand two penalties on Slamiar and clinch the game at 58.34 with another powerplay goal by Farmer for insurance to go 5-3 assisted by Wallace and Sikl. A great team performance with Paul Jones receiving MOM.
