The Scimitars enjoyed a great away win in Slough on Saturday evening but could not sustain that momentum against Milton Keynes, especially after they suffered the double blow of losing their top two defencemen, Ron Shudra and Ben Morgan, for the majority of the game. This was a disappointing start in front of a big crowd, with many newcomers to iceSheffield.

The Scimitars started the game without coach Ron Shudra on the ice or on the bench. After playing very well in Slough, the team seemed to lose cohesion against a fast and physical Milton Keynes.

They successfully killed a slashing penalty on Sikl ten minutes into the game, the next casualty was Morgan who received a 5+Game penalty for accidental high sticks. Missing both main penalty killers, the Scimitars faced a 5-on-3 and were scored on within 5 seconds at 11.11 by James Archer. A 2nd goal quickly followed, still on the power-play as Towalski lifter the puck over a diving Lee in net.

Two more quick goals by MK, at 16.43 and 18.05 took the scoreline to 4-0 at the end of the first period on a shot difference of 21 on Lee to 5 and a big hill to climb for Sheffield.

Another goal 29 seconds into the 2nd period prompted a change of netminder for the Scimitars, with Jones replacing Lee in net. Sheffield began to pick up their game a little though too many passes were intercepted by Milton Keynes. Some good individual play but not enough team performance.

Sheffield gave themselves and the big home crowd a lift when they scored at 45.17 with a masterpiece from Wallace who skated through the defence, delayed shooting the puck until the netminder had committed, before lifting it over him.

Sikl hammered in the Scimitars' 2nd goal at 47.02 but despite at last out-shooting Milton Keynes in the last session, the Scimitars' traditional fight-back was thwarted as Hollyhead closed the door. Lee Haywood received MOM for a hard-working performance.
