Match Report | 12th November 2008 » Sheffield Scimitars 6-2 Telford Tigers

Face Off: 5.30pm, Sunday 9th November 2008

Two very different performances by the Copthorne Sheffield Scimitars this weekend, with an out-of-sorts team in Milton Keynes on Saturday followed by a re-energised one on Sunday against Telford Tigers.

The Scimitars had the new Swedish import in their line-up but were missing Ollie Barron and Patrik Zigibor again this weekend though Ron Shudra drafted in Ryan Johnson, Matt Haywood and Tom Squires on Sunday to boost the squad.

The game was not very old before Simon Butterworth departed to hospital after a facial injury required suturing. Shortly after play restarted Telford picked up two minor penalties during which the Scimitars were able to take advantage of a 5 on 3 powerplay when Ron Shudra hammered home the first goal at 2.16.

The scored was doubled at 8.51 by Stephen Wallace shooting up high into the net, both goals being assisted by Sikl and Morgan and it was obvious that the right Scimitars team had turned up with a score-line of 2-0 at the end of the first period.

The Scimitars killed off an early penalty in the second before scoring at 25.56 with Wallace putting the puck under Lawrence for his 2nd goal of the night. End to end play by both teams with Slamiar also getting a breakaway which was denied by Lawrence. Knight for Telford scored off a rebound at 39.00 to make it 3-1 at the end of the second period.

With the Scimitars on the powerplay Robert Farmer scored after a rebound from a Sikl shot at 43.19 but Telford responded at 45.31 via Knight whose shot rolled round the top of the net. A good pass from Farmer behind the net to Wallace who buried it for his hat trick at 52.53. Slamiar fully sealed Telford's fate at 54.29 with the Scimitar's 6th goal reversing the previous night's scoreline after a much improved team performance with Wallace claiming a hat-trick and MOM.
