Match Report | 12th November 2008 » Milton Keynes Lightning 6-1 Sheffield Scimitars
Face Off: 7.00pm, Saturday 8th November 2008
The Scimitars travelled down to Milton Keynes on Saturday and were outplayed. They were missing Ollie Barron (injury), Ryan Johnson (Elite) and Mark Lee and with Andrew Bagshawe in as back-up goalie.
An early goal just 49 seconds into the game set the stage as a team of which several players and goalie were less than 100% fit and they struggled to pass and keep control of the puck. When two Scimitars D-men tangled up on the ice at 5.03, MK took full advantage to score unhindered. Two on one Milton Keynes breakaway shot saved and then the Scimitars went on the powerplay without much opportunity to score. The third goal was scored at 7.42 during a 5 on 3 penalty kill and a 22 shot disorganised 1st period allowed a 3-0 lead for the Lightning.
The second period followed much the same lines but with only one goal at 35.04 conceded out of 15 shots in one way traffic and Jones called on to make plenty of saves. Pares was given a 2+10 for checking Ben Morgan to the head which sent him crashing to the ice. The Scimitars gave up the puck too easily in the second and did not have the energy to retrieve it. No come back in evidence with the period ending 4-0.
Play at both ends of the rink with accurate shots on goal before Wallace had a chance shorthanded five minutes in. The Scimitars retrieved one goal to deny Hollyhead his shutout via Wallace who danced across face of goal, beating two defenders to shoot past Hollyhead at 48.15 on the powerplay. Milton Keynes claimed another goal at 52.32 after Duncombe was mugged by Clarke in front of the net with no call with the final goal at 57.17 after a good pass forwards from behind the net for a scoreline of 6-1 and a shot tally of 25 to 55. Farmer was awarded MOM for the Scimitars.
