Match Report | 21st January 2008 » Telford Tigers 4-3 Sheffield Scimitars
After penalty shootout
Face Off: 5.30pm, Saturday 12th January 2008
Telford Tigers v Sheffield Scimitars 12.1.08
4-3 OT SO Loss
The Scimitars started the weekend at full strength, with all four imports icing on Saturday and Robert Dowd back from illness, but this did not last with Patrik Moberg leaving the ice during the 2nd period and Pasi Raitanen sustaining an injury at the start of the third.
On Saturday in Telford, a rather lethargic looking Scimitars' team lost a poor first period by 1-0, despite having the full squad back against an under-strength Telford who were down to 10 skaters.
Dumas put the Tigers ahead at 9.57 with his top-shelf marker after the puck was turned over from the Scimitars moving out of their zone. The Scimitars came out more determined in the 2nd and scored their PP equaliser at 23.31 by Dowd, assisted Ron Shudra and Pasi Raitanen. Less than a minute later at 24.12, Barron slotted in on the near post from a pass in front of net. Scimitars dominated possession with 34 shots on Brabon in the period, though Telford were still able to disrupt Sheffield's powerplay and turn the puck over forcing a short-handed and then a breakaway blocker save by Raitanen.
The 3rd period saw a swing back in favour of Telford as it was their turn to put the Scimitars under pressure. Raitanen made two saves only to then have to leave the ice injured after Dumas fell awkwardly on him 55 seconds in. They scored their 2nd on the powerplay by Dumas at 50.45 and equalised 3-3 at 54.03 through a screen by Ashley Stanton whilst 4-on-4. The Tigers intensified the pressure forcing several good saves, including another breakaway but neither team could find the winning goal.
Overtime ensued with the Tigers scenting victory, but the Scimitars held on despite going on the penalty-kill from 63.38. Penalty shootout followed with Dowd scoring the first and Jones saving off Jets. Kostolny and Dumas both scored but Archer and Slamiar could not and the Tigers took their first win over the Scimitars after some 900 minutes of play over three seasons with Brabon (N/M) earning a well-deserved MOM, as did Sheffield's, Tom Squires.
