Knockout Cup Match

On Saturday the Scimitars travelled to Telford for the fourth time this season for their final Knockout Cup game. Sheffield were still missing Raitanen and Squires, Telford had three players back in the line-up, including Mackriel and Hornak from the previous encounter. They scored a very early wrap-around goal just 33 seconds into the game and then again on the powerplay at 6.28, with both goals scored by Hornak. Sheffield got themselves back into the game though with a goal scored by Archer at 11.43, assisted Dowd & Butterworth, followed by two goals within minutes of each other, at 14.21 by Dowd (Archer & Butterworth) and 14.36 by Slamiar (Moberg & Morgan) giving the Scimitars a 3-2 lead at the end of the first period. There were some great saves in the second and third by Jones who shut the door on the Tigers, with two excellent goals by Shudra (Wallace & Slamiar) at 37.23 and Moberg (Wallace & Morgan) at 37.44 at the other end for a 2-0 period.

The Scimitars had to go on the penalty kill early in the third, with Dowd going into the boards after a short-handed breakaway was disrupted near the net. Barron scored the final goal in the third at 47.35 on a 5-on-3 powerplay to wrap up the scoring, with Heslop facing the most shots and also making some very good saves to keep the scoreline down. Hornak managed a breakaway shortly after but his shot was saved to keep the scoreline 2-6. The team played well for the win, and kept the hopes alive of a chance to progress to the semi-finals, though goal difference will probably be the deciding factor between 4 or 5 teams.
