Match Report | 12th December 2007 » Slough Jets 3-4 Sheffield Scimitars
Face Off: 6.30pm, Saturday 8th December 2007
A great team performance on Saturday in Slough saw the Scimitars claim the scalp of serious title-contenders Slough, despite being down to 2 imports. In a battle between two evenly matched teams, Sheffield inflicted Slough's first League home defeat in regulation time.
Sheffield went ahead at 7.48 through Wallace in front of net, assisted Dowd who had turned the puck over in the Jets' zone. Slough's powerplay equaliser was scored by Moria at 16.57 from a pass by Krajicek to end the session at 1-1, in which Slough had had some long, sustained pressure in the Sheffield zone, with the Scimitars's relying on quick probes into the opposition's zone.
Slough went ahead through a Millie PP. goal, whilst Barron was in the box after knocking Krajicek over. Good attempt on goal by Slamiar but Skinns swallowed up the puck with no rebound. Butterworth scored at 29.40, assisted Dowd after a great period of attacking and great stick work, followed closely by a Dowd goal at 30.09 from a blast in centre of Slough zone, assisted Wallace. Slough replied at 33.56 after Jones blocked a slapshot from Redmond and Spearing was ready to flick the rebound in. Penalties on both sides finished the second period which ended 3-3 with both teams playing hard for the win.
There was sustained pressure on the Sheffield net in the third, especially during Slough powerplays, with Sheffield continuing to cause problems during even play resulting in a powerplay of their own, and with Duncombe putting in some big hits on Kozic and Chinn. Sheffield scored the game winner at 55.36, after Wallace danced around a defender, cut across to the centre and lifted the puck over the goalie, assisted by Dowd. A fast and furious last 4.30 mins followed, but despite pulling their goalie, the Jets could not find the equaliser. A great team performance with Paul Jones picking up MOM for his performance between the pipes.
