MATCH REPORT
Sheffield Scimitars v Slough Jets 3-2 (OT) 23.12.07

The Scimitars broke their recent losing streak with a great game of hockey against Slough Jets on Sunday, after just losing 1-2 to Chelmsford the night before.

Sheffield Scimitars finally got back to winning ways with the all the British players back plus Matt Haywood and Scott Morris, and two imports on the ice, Pasi Raitanen in net, and Ron Shudra as acting coach, though with Slamiar and Moberg and Johnson still missing. The team turned up on Sunday to give Slough a second consecutive defeat, despite having to go to overtime to earn the 2 points.

The pre-Christmas crowd were treated to a much more up-beat Scimitars' team in their clash with the strongly fancied title-contenders, Slough Jets, and although it seemed an almost impossible task on recent form and results, the Scimitars showed their Yorkshire grit to gain the much-needed two points.

Sheffield took the lead at 7.56 with Ollie Barron scoring from a great pass by Wallace from behind the net. Play went end to end with few shots being released by either team though Slough's four imports earned their pay with Krajicek scoring the equaliser with a top goal at 18.58. Scimitars were unable to capitalise on several powerplay chances and the period ended 1-1.

Scimitars put some excellent pressure on the Jets without result though the visitors' penalty-killing units kept the Scimitars at bay. Slough took the lead at 29.01 by Moria with Raitanen then coming up with some great saves as the Jets piled on the pressure to keep the score down to 1-2 to end the second period.

After some good efforts by Sheffield in putting shots on Skinns in the Slough net, they were finally rewarded by an equalising goal at 46.56 from the hard-working Jon Woolhouse at 46.56. Play continued apace and despite the Scimitars working hard during the Jets' penalties in the final five minutes of the game, they could not find the winner and a nail-biting sudden death overtime followed.

The Scimitars finished the game off at 62.52 with a great goal by Dowd, who was well positioned for the rebound off an initial Woolhouse shot and the Scimitars celebrated in style, with Steve Wallace picking up MOM award and Robert Farmer getting his second consecutive Supporter's Player of the Month award.
