Match Report | 12th December 2007 » Sheffield Scimitars 2-4 Bracknell Bees
Face Off: 5.30pm, Sunday 9th December 2007

Another mixed weekend for the Scimitars as the Scimitars did a great job to grab the win in Slough, and then managed to pin Bracknell back to 1-0 for 2 periods before some lapses allowed them to take the lead. The Scimitars were down to 2 imports with Moberg still injured and Jones replacing Raitanen in goal.
In a first meeting between the two teams this season, last year's champions and currently 2nd placed Bracknell came into town off a 9-2 win the previous night. Despite an early penalty kill, the Scimitars looked sharp and capitalised on their first powerplay from a blast by Slamiar, which was deflected in by Dowd at 8.38. Ben Morgan took a shot to the visor just before Scimitars had to defend a 5 on 3 penalty run, in which Jones kept them off the board to end the period 1-0.
A 0-0 second period brought end to end action, with some good plays, especially by the 3rd line, but no further break-though until a Sheffield goal was disallowed at 38.55. Jasik was given a 10 min. misconduct penalty for abusing an official during their protest at the goal. Bracknell were looking increasingly frustrated at not being able to score past Jones who made some great saves, but the Scimitars failed to put away some chances at the other end and the period ended with the score still 1-0.
Bracknell came out much more determined in the third and equalised almost straight away through Thompson at 40.10, driving straight at the net. Bracknell then broke free at 47.45 for a shorthanded goal scored by Bicknell from a pass across face of net from Kanka after Wallace had been taken out from behind whilst chasing back, and no penalty called. With Bracknell fired up, it was only two minutes later that Jasik scored from a one-timer from the blue-line at 49.47 which Jones only got a piece of.
Before the Scimitars had collected themselves, the Bees were charging back, 3 on 1 for another strike at 50.06 by Jasik to go 4-1 up and deflating the tiring home team. The game ended with a 5 minute powerplay for the Scimitars after Jasik got a match penalty for checking to the head on Haywood. The Scimitars managed a 2nd goal during a 5 on 3 powerplay but could add nothing further before the buzzer. Ben Morgan earned himself MOM.
