Match Report | 13th November 2007 » Sheffield Scimitars 8-0 Telford Tigers
Face Off: 7.15pm, Saturday 10th November 2007

In a must-win EPL Cup game for the Scimitars on Saturday night, they knew they had to be on form against Telford Tigers who were coming off a rare four-point weekend. Whilst Telford were already out of the contest in the Cup, they were on high from two good wins.
The Scimitars were missing James Goodman through suspension, and Lloyd Gibson, with Ron Shudra a doubt after sustaining an injury the previous Saturday and Pasi Raitanen resting an injury.
In a welcome return, Shudra did start the game after testing out in the warm-up. The first period was tight and fast with Sheffield peppering Telford's back-up goalie, Heslop, who kept his team in the game by denying good chances on goal by all three lines. The breakthrough finally came for the Scimitars on the powerplay at 16.23, after Butterworth, in front of goal, received an accurate pass from Wallace behind the net and buried the puck. The period ended 1-0 but with the Scimitars on a penalty kill which was carried into the second period.
The action was much more equal on each goal in the second period with Jones making some good saves to deny Telford equalising. Ryan Johnson took on Parker in a fight for roughing Farmer after the play and both got 2+2+2 for their efforts. Heslop was still thwarting the Scimitars until Wallace eased the pressure a little by scoring at 37.53, with the puck lifting over the goalie's shoulder after the first shot was blocked, ending the period again on a penalty-kill but 2-0 up.
Although Telford were still attacking whenever possible in the third, the Scimitars had the majority of puck possession, and went on a 6 minute goal-scoring spree starting at 44.45 when Wallace hammered home a goal-line pass from Butterworth. Dowd scored the 4th goal at 45.43 from another accurate Butterworth pass. Wallace claimed his hat-trick with a powerplay goal at 48.53 after a good feed from Morgan in front of net. The 6th goal was whipped in under the goalie by Jon Woolhouse from a great cross by Barron, causing Telford to call a time-out to regroup and a goalie change at 50.09. However, the Scimitars were on a roll and despite some good saves by Brabon during his short stint, he had to pick the puck out of the net at 58.08 after Stuart Brittle had lifted it over the keeper's shoulder. Butterworth completed his 5 point game (2+3) with a goal at 58.19 from a Wallace pass to finish the scoring at 8-0. Wallace won Man of the Match with 3 goals and 2 assists in the game and Jones claimed a shut out.
MOM was presented by Match Sponsors - Norton Cast Products.
A good win was rounded off with a team photo taken with the Thorncliffe Junior Football Team in their new Scimitars' sponsored track suits.
The Scimitars have no home games next weekend, but travel to Peterborough for the final Cup game to secure a semi-final berth. Their next home game is on 25th November against Slough Jets.
