Match Report | 28th November 2007 » Sheffield Scimitars 0-3 Slough Jets
Face Off: 5.30pm, Sunday 25th November 2007

The Scimitars faced off against Slough Jets and newly signed Les Millie, for the first time this season after a hard-fought win the night before in Milton Keynes. The full line-up of returnees, Ron Shudra, Pasi Raitanen, Steve Wallace and Lloyd Gibson, had only lasted approximately 30 minutes on Saturday night before they lost one of their imports again in Patrik Moberg.
The Scimitars started off well against the bigger and more experienced opponents, making them work to gain possession of the puck but Slough outshot Sheffield by 15 shots to 6 in the first, with Pasi Raitanen helping to keep the the score at 0-0 at the end of the first with some good saves. Many of the Scimitars showed real tenacity in working along the boards and centre ice for the puck all night but were unable to create any real offensive threat in the game by the Jets interceptions and defensive play.
The Scimitars could have scored early in the 2nd after some good passing between Gibson, Slamiar and Brittle which left the puck sitting on the goal line after a save but with no-one close enough to tap it in. With Moria and Dowd receiving penalties, Slough scored whilst it was 4-on-4 by Krajicek at 28.46. Despite Chinn sitting out a 10 minutes misconduct and a 5 on 3 powerplay, the Scimitars were thwarted in setting up many quality goal-scoring opportunities and by Skinns who was stopping all that was coming his way and so went into 2nd break 0-1 down.
Slough looked strong and confident though the Scimitars out-shot them in both periods and continued to work hard but without their usual fluency, partly due to hurting bodies from the previous night's game. With Scimitars penalised for too many men, Emersic scored during a delayed penalty goal at 50.01 with Millie getting an assist. This was followed by another at 54.00 by Spearing and the game ended 0-3 to Slough. The Scimitars continued to press hard till the end but Skinns was determined to defend his shutout to gain his MOM. Steve Wallace was MOM for the Scimitars.
A disappointing result but good atmosphere on a night when Ron Shudra had his 40th birthday celebrated at the end of the game, with some presentations and a rendition of Happy Birthday (and earlier The National Anthem) on the cornet.
