Match Report | 9th November 2007 » Chelmsford Chieftains 6-4 Sheffield Scimitars
Face Off: 6.30pm, Sunday 4th November 2007
Sheffield Scimitars remain 2nd in the League despite their loss in Chelmsford.
It was a long road trip down to Essex after a hard-fought game the previous night and the Scimitars were missing their influential captain from the line-up due to injury sustained during the Guildford game. Also missing was Lloyd Gibson who is away in America on work experience for two weeks. Back in the line-up this weekend were Jon Woolhouse and Arran Strawson after a few weeks off with injuries and Paul Jones started in net.
Chelmsford had the fresh legs, not having played the night before and played hard for a win. The first goal came at 01.46 with the puck going in off a Chieftain's skate from a rebound. Scimitars equalised at 9.42 after some excellent passing from Moberg and Haywood to Brittle for the goal. This was short-lived as the Chieftains immediately attacked again and fired the puck in at 10.10. The pressure remained on Sheffield net until Chieftains picked up a penalty and the Scimitars equalised a 2nd time by Wallace from Morgan & Dowd at 14.48. to end the 1st period 2-2.
The second period saw one goal apiece and plenty of action on both nets with both keepers making good saves. Chelmsford scored passing across the face of net at 29.56 to restore their lead but with Sheffield replying at 31.41 by Morgan on the near post to tip in the rebound on the powerplay.
Early 3rd period pressure on Sheffield net was followed by a call on Goodman for high-sticks with a 5 + game penalty at 46.26. Scimitars took the 1st lead of the game from some neat passing with Wallace netting from Dowd and Duncombe. However this was again short-lived as a defensively depleted and tiring Sheffield struggled to contain the Chieftains and 2 goals were scored playing 4 on 4, the score went from 4-4 at 49.40 to 5-4 at 50.47. Although the Scimitars worked hard with a powerplay to help them, another goal was not forthcoming for them, though it did for Chelmsford to put the game beyond reach at 57.44 to end 6 -4. MOM went to Wallace for his 2 goals.
