Saturday's Cup game against the Peterborough Phantoms resulted in a 3-5 defeat for the Scimitars in a game they dominated at times and should have won. Missing Duncombe and Woolhouse for the weekend and Farmer on Saturday, the Scimitars returned home from a 5 game winning streak on the road. The Scimitars need at least 2 more points to clinch the semi-final spot unless Telford beat Peterborough in their final encounter.

Peterborough took the lead at 8.35 with a one-timer unleashed by Foremsky after a well-timed pass from Rempel. There was some good penalty killing by Sheffield and a short-handed chance by Moberg but the shot was straight at the goalie. Peterborough scored their second at 13.06 when Reynolds tipped in on the far post from a pass across in front of net from Peacock. Peter Slamiar pulled one goal back with a great shot over the keeper's shoulder at 16.19.

Sheffield equalised at 24.09 through Shudra from a Slamiar pass but Phantoms recovered the lead again after Gough broke away during a Scimitars' powerplay to go in on goal at 29.13 to end the second period with a 2-3 scoreline.

The Scimitars did not seem to be able to capitalise on chances offered them as shots hit the piping, or went sky-high into the netting with many shots going straight into the keeper. The visitors put the game past a Scimitars recovery with a 4th goal at 56.39 after a frantic period of hockey, though Scimitars pulled it back to a one-goal game at 58.54 with a Wallace blast off a Butterworth pass from behind the net. Pulling the goalie did not help as Peterborough scored an empty-netter at 59.49. Butterworth earned himself MOM award after another good performance.
