Face Off: 5.30pm, Sunday 30th September 2007

The Scimitars outplayed Swindon on Saturday, coming home with two points but then dropped two at home on the Sunday when Milton Keynes were the ones doing the scoring.

On Sunday the Scimitars did not seem able to get the same rhythm going with Milton Keynes breaking up many passes in centre ice. Play was fairly even in the first ten minutes with the Scimitars being denied a good scoring opportunity when the Milton Keynes net was pushed off its moorings as Moberg was attempting a wrap around on a near empty net. That seemed to set the tone for the Scimitars' fortunes on the night. Robert Dowd looked as if he was out for rest of the game as he went down heavily against the boards during a powerplay at 09.31 with Mikko Skinnari being given a 5 minutes plus game for boarding. The Scimitars could not capitalise during the subsequent 5-on-3 powerplay as Milton Keynes defended well, though they did claim a respite during a protracted clean-up of some blood from the ice. The Lightning were true to their name in being quick on the break and fast skaters though Sheffield did restrict scoring chances to only 5 shots by the end of the 0-0 first period.

It was Sheffield's turn to hit penalty troubles in the second period, (after receiving none in the first), and after killing off a couple of early 2 minute minors, they were then hit by Slamiar receiving a 10 minute misconduct. As this penalty expired, Milton Keynes managed to hit two unanswered goals, the first at 37.47 and again during a powerplay at 39.40 when Randall blasted the puck in from centre blue line past an un-sighted Raitanen.

The Scimitars needed a strong start for the final period but Milton Keynes claimed their 3rd goal within the opening minute at 40.55 from a backhander by Perez. The Scimitars then increased the pressure and scored their first and only goal at 43.23 scored by Dowd (MOM) from a Butterworth pass. In another break down the ice, Milton Keynes killed any chance of a revival by Sheffield with a 4th goal at 56.59 by Clarke and a further penalty on Slamiar at 59.45, ending the game at 1-4.
