A great start to the new English Premier League season for the Sheffield Scimitars with a 4 point haul over the weekend in two substantial wins, following the well-earned 3-3 draw against the Steelers in the previous week. This was a big confidence-boost for the team prior to the main campaign.

A full strength Scimitars' team faced an improved Swindon squad for their first League home game on Sunday, and although they did not dominate the game in the way they had the previous night, they again worked hard for the win, as did Swindon, who had newly signed ex-Sheffield Mike Holland returning for his first game against his home team.

Sheffield started the game in an up-beat manner and following some chances at both ends, the home team went 1-0 up at 4.12 with an excellent unassisted goal by Dowd, who, having won the face-off, then found the back of the net from a rebound off his initial shot. Penalty-killing units were called into action during a brief flurry of penalties, but Sheffield increased their lead to 2-0 with a great close-range goal by Brittle (MOM) from an accurate pass by Slamiar at 15.50. Slamiar nearly scored another from a blistering shot that cannoned off the crossbar and was then on target again just before the buzzer but was denied by the keeper.

Swindon came out more determined in the second, skating hard and reversing the shot count in their favour, but Raitanen saved all that was thrown at him. Brabon also made some good saves but was unable to save Slamiar's shot off a neat pass by Moburg at 35.40 giving Sheffield a 3-0 score-line going into the 2nd period break.

The tempo increased in the third as Swindon fought to get back in the game with some heavy-hitting as well. Sheffield responded with some good powerplay work but they were unable to score again and it was Swindon who capitalised with a consolation goal at 48.06, with the final score of 3-0 to the Scimitars.
