Match Report | 27th September 2007 » Milton Keynes 5-4 Sheffield Scimitars
Face Off: 7.00pm, Saturday 22nd September 2007
The Scimitars travelled down to Milton Keynes on Saturday, to face another undefeated team in a fast-paced, exciting game that could have gone either way. Sheffield were still missing Ryan Johnson still serving a 2 match ban.
Scimitars scored early at 0.47 by Dowd but Milton Keynes replied at 1.58. The Scimitars successfully killed off a 2 minute penalty with Wallace and then Goodman having short-handed shots on goal. Sheffield took the lead again with an unassisted goal by Slamiar at 10.50 but MK replied again at 14.58 with a wrap-around goal to level the score. Goodman put the Scimitars back in front with a PP goal at 19.19 from a great pass by Slamiar, a 3-2 lead which they held through the second period. Shots on goal were equal at the end of the 1st at 11 each.
Both goaltenders kept their sheets clean in the second through some good saves, though Dowd's backhanded 'goal' was disallowed and Sheffield had to defend a number of penalties. After the Scimitars had increased their lead to 4-2 by a great backhanded goal by Slamiar at 44.50, he then got impeded by the referee in his drive up to MK's zone allowing them gain an advantage by scoring at 46.13 by Wales (MOM). Milton Keynes increased the pressure resulting in some fast end to end play and equalised at 55.26 with the score 4-4 and nearly 5 minutes to go. With the momentum now with Milton Keynes, after the Scimitars had dominated the first two periods, Clarke scored the winning goal with 7 seconds left in the game. A hard fought game between two evenly poised teams with Simon Butterworth earning himself MOM.
