Match Report | 4th April 2007 » Swindon Wildcats 3-4 Sheffield Scimitars
Face Off: 5.45pm, Saturday 31st March 2007
Saturday's game in Swindon was a tense affair as they took on the Wildcats who were back to full strength, though Sheffield were missing Steve Duncombe following his hit by a puck, Carl Ashton and Steve Roberts.
Scimitars took the early lead at 3.21 through Dowd from Shudra, which lifted the team after the previous weekend against Peterborough. Swindon played hard and the period concluded 0-1, with Endicott getting a match penalty for spearing, followed by Stewart for protesting (with an obscene gesture) that the wrong player had been ejected.
Sheffield scored their 2nd goal at 24.51 by Lloyd Gibson, who worked hard and hassled Swindon all night, assisted by Dowd and Towe. Swindon replied shortly after with a goal by Rusic right in front of the net, at 25.49 from puck that was passed out from the boards. Sheffield then had a goal disallowed as it was deemed to have been kicked in. Swindon increased the pressure on Sheffield's net but subsequently scored an equalising goal at 31.37 through traffic and an unsighted Raitanen, to set up the 3rd period all square again. Swindon was now forcing the pace putting Sheffield rather on the back foot.
Sheffield regrouped and worked hard in the third period for another goal which came at 43.21 when Dowd (MOM) managed to slide the puck past Brabon, and with Butterworth giving Sheffield a two goal cushion at 46.46, again assisted by Millie. The Scimitars were looking much more organised in this period with crisper passing, but a PP goal by Swindon at 54.16 put the tension back into the match until the final whistle, though with Sheffield gaining a well-earned 4-3 victory.
Scoring Details: Swindon: Juihlin 2+0, Rusic 1+0, Petkoff 0+2, Brittle, Hayes & Davison 0+1. MOM: M. Juihlin. Sheffield: Dowd 2+1, Butterworth & Gibson 1+0, Millie 0+2, Shudra & Towe 0+1. MOM: R. Dowd.
