Match Report | 1st April 2007 » Romford Raiders 5-8 Sheffield Scimitars
Face Off: 5.15pm, Sunday 18th March 2007
Sunday's game in Romford began well with three even-handed goals scored by Dowd at 3.39, 4.12 and 14.19, with assists by Shudra, Brittle and Morgan. That great start was marred by Romford's only goal of the period at 6.58 when the net was off its moorings but was allowed to stand as the officials had not seen it. There were some good passing manoeuvres in this game, especially on the Dowd, Towe and Brittle line, though Romford were quick to intercept loose passes and breakaway down the ice.
The score-line was taken to 4-1 at 24.16 following a goal by Turner, from Brittle and Johnson but Romford retrieved one at 32.14 by Kaminskas. MOM Rob Dowd was on fire as he scored his 4th at 38.33, (assisted Morgan and Johnson) though unfortunately was in the firing line of a puck shortly after, which caught him on the nose and he did not return to the game. Millie scored shortly after at 39.3 to complete the scoring for the 2nd period at 6-2.
With this scoreline going into the third, the Scimitars took their foot off the gas a little, though still scored two. Millie opened the period by taking the puck the length of the ice and shooting at an almost impossible angle on the goal line, with the puck going in off the goalie's skate at 41.37. This was followed by a breakaway by Kaminskas for his second of the night at 45.14. Sheffield's 8th and final goal was from a bouncing puck off a Turner shot and put in by Romford at 52.03. Romford did not give up though and on yet another breakaway, Romford was prevented from getting the shot off by a chasing D-man, a penalty shot awarded and Ketola scored at 55.27. Romford's final goal to wrap up the final league game came at 57.58 by Kaminskas on the powerplay, with Sheffield again being out-shot 45-38.
Game Details: Romford: Kaminskas 3+0, Ketola 1+0, Andrews 1+0, Marshall 0+3, Williams 0+2. Sheffield: Dowd 4+0, Turner & Millie 2+0, Morgan, Shudra, Brittle, Towe 0+2, Butterworth, Duncombe, Woolhouse, Johnson & Ashton 0+1 MOM: Dowd.
