Match Report | 3rd February 2007 » Sheffield Scimitars 10-4 Telford Tigers
Face Off: 4.15pm, Saturday 27th January 2007
A 10-4 win on Saturday night against Telford Tigers set the scene for a double-headed home weekend. The Scimitars aimed for a clean sweep of wins against both teams in their final regular League encounters. Robert Dowd was missing for both games whilst recovering from an injury sustained in Swindon, and Jones replaced Raitanen in goal for a rare game start.
The team came out flying with some crisp passing but Telford was also attacking and fast-skating. Sheffield scored first at 10.05 with Stewart getting to a rebound from a powerful shot on net by Roberts. Gibson bagged the second on the powerplay at 16.33, putting the puck straight under the goalie from a pass by Ashton. This line had a great game, scoring 4 goals out of the 10, with Lloyd Gibson being awarded a well deserved MOM after his 1+2 points. Next up was Brittle at 17.14 after he had raced skilfully through Telford's players. Telford pulled one back by Huska after a goal-mouth scramble at 18.45, with the period finishing 3-1.
Sheffield started the 2nd period in the same manner, with the 4th goal scored at 23.20 on the powerplay by Stewart from Millie and Roberts, with the 5th at 29.19 after Gibson had got round to D-men before passing to Ashton, who drilled the puck home. Telford scored their 2nd via a deflected screened shot whilst Scimitars were killing a 5-on-3 penalty. Woolhouse scored the 6th from a backhand flick over the goalie which led to a change in the Telford net. Stewart scored a back-handed hat-trick goal at 41.18 but Telford replied via Huska at 42.47 after two quick saves made in another goal-mouth melee but the third shot was lifted over Jones whilst he was trying to re-position himself. Woolhouse claimed his second at 52.47, with some penalty killing in between. Another two by Stewart for his 5th of the night (and highest number scored during one game in his career) almost completed the night, but Dumas blasted a rocket in at 58.21 to end the high-scoring 10-4 game.
Scoring Details: Sheffield: Stewart 5+0, Woolhouse 2+0, Ashton 1+3, Gibson 1+2, Brittle 1+0, Millie 0+3, Roberts 0+2, Turner, Johnson, Morgan & Shudra 0+1. MOM. L. Gibson Telford: Dumas & Huska 2+0, Kostolny 0 +2, Owen, Graham, Croft, Whyatt & Soderstrom
