In a close 1-1 first period, the Scimitars were a little slow to get going and Telford initially looked the keener of the two teams. The first goal was scored by Telford but the Scimitars levelled the score at 9.21 courtesy of Les Millie unassisted on the powerplay. Towe had a good chance of scoring close in on goal but was taken down before he had chance to shoot, with no penalty called.

The Scimitars took the lead briefly at 22.22 scored by Roberts from a pass by Millie, but a breakaway goal at 24.35 resulted from a rebound off the Telford goalie, tying the game at 2-2. However, Sheffield regained the lead at 28.34, again on the powerplay, with a goal by Towe from Roberts and Shudra. Raitanen had to make a good save on a three-on-one rush, as well as several others to preserve the lead, including during a 5-on-3 penalty killing.

In the third period, the Scimitars were the more dominant team and seemed to find some extra energy. They out-shot their opponents by 22 shots to 5, scoring three unanswered goals plus staying out of the penalty box. Dowd, from Morgan and Towe scored at 46.29, followed quickly by a second by Dowd at 47.15 from Towe, following some nice passing. The final goal was scored by Stuart Brittle, (from Roberts and Dowd) on the powerplay and against his old home club, lifting the puck over the goalie's shoulder for a 6-2 win.
