On Sunday in Solihull, Sheffield could not afford complacency, despite having a 5 game winning record against them this season and just one loss out of a total of 13 meetings in the last 3 years, as they have recently held Guildford to a 2-1 result and Bracknell to a 2-2 draw.

The game had plenty of pace and physical play on the smaller ice with special teams having to kill off 16 minutes of penalties. The Scimitars took the early lead though with a great top corner, short-handed goal by Butterworth from a long pass up the ice by Goodman and Stewart at 17.25. This was the only goal of the first period though the puck rang off the post twice.

The Scimitars scored their second goal at 23.46 by Dowd from some well-worked passing from Roberts and Towe. All three lines were icing with with several potential chances on goal though their netminder was lucky as another three shots hit the posts. Solihull reduced the 2-0 deficit by scoring at 37.28 on the powerplay but Sheffield scored again at 39.16 as Butterworth, from Stewart, took the puck down and passed to Millie, who made no mistake for his first goal since returning from injury.

The team worked hard all game and the powerplay unit created plenty of shots on Brabon in the Solihull net, but he, like Pasi made some outstanding saves to keep the game close. They tied it 3-3 at 55.35 on the powerplay to send the game into overtime. Despite throwing everything at the net with Solihull taking a bench minor at 62.13 for too many non-EIHA players on at a time, and Sheffield swapping our netminders to allow another import on, Sheffield could not get the winning goal as Brabon saved all 7 shots on him. Ron Shudra was given a well-deserved Man of the Match.
