This game was rather scrappy for the first 2 periods, although the Scimitars ended the first period 3 goals to 1 up. Towe scored a great goal at 2.50 from passes by Shudra and Pasi, followed at 10.48 by the first of the evening from Steve Roberts (MOM), from a rebound off the pads from a shot by Duncombe (and Towe). With Chelmsford on a roughing penalty, there was a change of Sheffield's netminders to capitalise on an extra import skater, but Chelmsford got on the board with a short-handed marker at 9.54. A Morgan rocket took the water bottle of the net at 14.53 taking the score 3-1 at the end of the first.

Both netminders had plenty of work to do in the second period (15 shots a piece) during some hard, end to end hockey, with Pasi at the wrong end of some net-crashing. Chelmsford had the upper hand in winning the period 2-1, when they always looked dangerous on the offence. Sheffield's only goal of the period was scored by Butterworth, from Stewart and Morgan to finish the period 3-3.

In the third period Sheffield had some trouble clearing the zone during their penalty killing, but no more goals were conceded. However, Chelmsford were getting increasingly frustrated resulting in 22 minutes of penalties during which the Scimitars capitalised with 3 powerplay goals. Roberts scored at 51.01 from Dowd and Shudra, with his hat-trick goal at 57.35 from Shudra, as Howard (C) received a cross-checking penalty and a misconduct. The final powerplay goal came at 58.20 from Towe, (Dowd and Goodman) with the goalie having no chance.
