Match Report | 28th November 2006 » Telford Tigers 2-4 Sheffield Scimitars
Face Off: 5.30pm, Saturday 25th November 2006
On Saturday in Telford, with Roberts making his long awaited debut in a Scimitars shirt, Neil Abel once again icing to cover for injuries, and Ron Shudra playing a forward role, the Scimitars were determined to take two points home.
Despite killing off an early penalty 15 seconds into the game, the Scimitars were able to get on the scoreboard soon after, with an excellent goal by Stewart from a backhanded pass by Shudra which pulled the goalie out of position. Pasi was called into action to make a great save to deny Telford an equalising goal. Sheffield only had to kill off one other penalty in the game mid-period but Telford's players started to take advantage of minimal zero tolerance enforcement, (as in Sunday's game) with some heavy and late checks on the Scimitars.
Butterworth increased the lead at 18.08 unassisted, by flicking the puck over the goalie after some fine saves by Pasi earlier kept Telford off the scoreboard. The Scimitars led 2-0 going into the first period break, though with Stewart off the ice for part of that time after being hit in the face.
The 3rd period was not disrupted by Zero Tolerance calls with only one 2 minute penalty being called on Telford and during which the Scimitars could not capitalize. A good run from deep inside the Sheffield zone by Goodman who passed to Woolhouse for the 3rd goal at 25.50, with Pasi having made some great saves on breakaways by Telford. The Scimitars' 4th goal was an unstoppable Shudra trademark slapshot which gave Betinec no time to move. Dumas scored Telford's first goal at 35.57 when he was given too much time to place his shot.
The Scimitars were the more skilful team though Telford was dangerous on the breakaway. Steve Roberts, who was acclimatizing himself to his new team and UK hockey again, had some good attempts at goal and was unlucky not to score. Telford finished the scoring at 58.03 to end the game 2-4 with the visitors taking the 2 points.
