Match Report | 4th November 2006 » Milton Keynes Lightning 0-3 Sheffield Scimitars

Face Off: 7.00pm, Saturday 4th November 2006

This was a testing away game at Milton Keynes for the Scimitars with on form, top-scorer Les Millie out of action, but they continued to confound the sceptics who were waiting to see how the Scimitars fared against the bigger boys in the league. A decisive 3-0 win was the answer, achieved by hard work and team effort.

This was a much more physical and fast-skating game with some excellent defensive work, and Pasi Raitanen mopping up any shots that got through, with some good creative work in the offensive zone. Ron Shudra buried the first goal on a 5 on 3 power-play at 10.27, assisted by Towe and Stewart.

The Scimitars seemed well in control in the first period but fared less well in the second, having to kill off several penalties and with Milton Keynes controlling the puck more in our zone. However, the Scimitars still created chances and Pasi kept the score in Sheffield's favour.

The third period saw a revival of the Scimitars' energy levels and puck control to which Milton Keynes had little answer and no reward. Mark Stewart had a great run in on goal and flicked the puck over the netminder at 41.24, assisted by Butterworth and Shudra.

The final goal came at 46.13, scored by Towe, and assisted by MOM Dowd and Shudra, a just reward from a brilliant shift and great passing. Ron Shudra then had two great chances near the end of the match hitting first the left and then the right goal posts in successive shots. The excellent win was marred by two players sustaining injuries, Nat Rose, who had had a great game, and Lloyd Gibson, coming on in the final shifts of the game got taken into the boards by Dwayne Newman and was taken to hospital by ambulance to check for head and neck injuries. He was released after an xray and returned home via car.
